Brian and Music
Brian loved music! It's always been a part of his life since Mom and Dad sang lullaby's to him as a baby. As a child he loved Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree, Eencey Weency Spider and especially Jingle Bells. At age 4, Dad graduated from college and we drove to Arlington, Texas for his first out of college job. As we drove into town, Karen and David were asleep in the back seat and Brian was sitting in front between Mom and Dad. All three of us were in awe as we drove into the city, wondering what our new life was going to be like, where we would live, what adventures were ahead. Out of the blue, Brian started singing Jingle Bells. It brought us back to earth, back to the familiar, the present moment and the realization that we were a family together and would support and love each other through our new experiences.

Kevin reminded me last night that Brian played the tuba in grade school! I had forgotten! But having been reminded, I was able to dredge up the memory of him going to school carrying the tuba in a large, black carrying case. It was huge! But, he liked it! It seems like he also played the drums at some point. Was it in 6th grade? I remember going to a concert to hear him play at the Jr. High School but, it could have been that he was in elementary school and the concert was just at the Jr. Hi.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like brian was always surrounding himself with music. He introduced me to many artists that stuck to me like deep purple and dinosaur jr. and every time I hear them I think of him.
